Questions you may ask?
1. What are the most common reasons marriages break down?
Many marriages experience martial issues and can fall apart, because of a lack of communication, expectations around intimacy, lack of understanding of emotions and the silent language, infidelity, financial stress, and unresolved conflict. A partner can feel unheard, unappreciated, or disconnected, and then can build resentment towards the other and it becomes a problem, then leading to emotional separation, ultimately, then breakdown of the relationship.
2. How does poor communication contribute to marriage failure?
Communication is the foundation of healthy relationships. If a couples struggle to express their thoughts, feelings, needs, expectations, listening, knowing how to resolve conflicts effectively, misunderstanding and frustration build. A couple need to learn how to be open, honest, respectful communication, resolving issues as a team, and grow emotional connection.
3. Can a marriage survive after trust is broken?
Primarily the answer is yes, but not without great want, commitment and effort from both partners. The trust and respect has been broken and rebuilding is possible with some of the following, open dialogue, accountability, and professional support. Counselling can help couples navigate the pain, rebuild trust, and create new ways of relating to each other. Healing takes time, and both partners must be willing to work through emotions and re-establish their foundations in the relationship.
4. How can we improve our communication?
Improving communication starts with intentional listening. Many couples fall into the habit of listening to respond, rather than to understand. I encourage partners to practise active listening—that means giving your full attention, reflecting back what you’ve heard, and asking clarifying questions. It also helps to schedule regular “check-ins” without distractions to talk openly about how each of you is feeling. Keep your tone warm and your body language open; the goal is connection, not correction.
5. How do we effectively express our needs and emotions?
Expressing needs clearly is vital, but it takes courage and care. I recommend using “I” statements—for example, “I feel unsupported when we don’t talk about our plans,” rather than “You never help me.” This approach lowers defensiveness and opens the door to mutual understanding. Being emotionally honest can be uncomfortable, especially if you’ve learned to suppress your needs, but growth in relationships starts when both partners feel seen and heard without judgement.
6. How do we handle disagreements and conflicts constructively?

When I first booked an appointment with Katherine I was really nervous and didn't know what to expect. Katherine is a kind and understanding person. She could tell straight way that was nervous and she made me laugh and feel safe. After the first phone appointment I knew I had made the right choice. Katherine has given me tools and techniques to help me with what I have been going through. I have appreciated everything that she has done for me. It has helped more than I thought. So, thank you Katherine. You are amazing.Posted on Google![]()

I visited Katherine recently hoping that she might assist with a family issue. I found her professional, friendly and competent. She guided the session with sensitivity, awareness and compassion. She was acutely aware of the verbal conversation between the two parties both in regard to what was said and what was not said, and the body language of the two participants. I would like to highly recommend Katherine as a counsellor for those who need a quietly spoken, intuitive and knowledgeable professional.
